Governor's Fashion Awards 2003, Honolulu, HI
The 2003 Governor's fashion awards were showcased on June 27, 2003, and Mamo Howell was the star. For the first time ever Mamo released her Ali'i Nui Line. Before this, high-end cultural Hawaiian prints never existed in soft, flowing chiffon and charmeuse fabrics. Mamo however has raised the standard of fashion in Hawai'i as we know it. This Ali'i Nui Collection consisted of 100% Silk Charmeuse and Chiffons that softly cocoon the wearer, highlighting the body's movement and natural grace.
Fashion Show Reviews
Honolulu Advertiser, by Paula Rath, July 4, 2003.
"The show-stopper was a new collection by Mamo Howell, who pulled out all the stops with
fashions that were anything but ho-hum. The latest 2-color print is a combination of
black with an electrifying royal blue, Pele red or subtly celery…These drape and swirl
around the body, clinging in all the right places…"
Honolulu Star-Bulletin, by Nadine Kam, July 3, 2003
"Mamo Howell's designs exhibited flamenco flair as tiers of sheer flowing ruffles
graced her evening dresses."
